My 1970 LT-1 has the factory T.I. ignition - when cranking to start I get no spark to the engine - when I return the ignition key to "run" from the "start" position the engine will catch and run if it is still turning over - I have zero experience in troubleshooting these T.I. ignition setups - it seems that the system is not providing power to the coil when cranking, but does when in the "run" position - is the T.I. amplifier bad? - or should I look elsewhere? - experienced recommendations are most appreciated! - THANKS in advance! - Chuck in South Dakota
FB007 is correct, check the lead from the starter to the TI. Check the pickup coil leads too. I've got a wiring diagram someplace for the TI if you need it. The correct coil for the TI is a must too. Low impedance. A big fat aftermarket coil will kill the amplifier.
Check the circuit coming from the R terminal on the starter solenoid. There are several connectors between the solenoid and the amp that could be dirty.
Your starter solenoid contact is bad. (Assuming you are usind a stock starter).
I was thinking of that possibility, is there anyway to confirm before I remove the starter? Would love to figure out a way to bypass so that I could get started and get car on lift to remove starter!
