Default Quick question for the painters

How should I clean my sanding blocks before applying a new piece of sticky sandpaper? The problem I'm having is the paint dust in the foam seems to foul the "sticky" stuff. I'm sure there's a simple 'doh!' answer, but I'm not having much luck on my own.

I'm using dura blocks and rolls of 3M Stickit (the reddish stuff).

Unfamiliar with what your block is made of but I have found mineral spirits will cut the adhesive/dust crust on my DA pads. Also works well on the hard rubber and aluminum blocks I use... even the plastic faced foam on the long board. Flame suit on!!!!

A quick wipe with a rag damp, not soaked, with lacquer thinner should do the trick.

I use acetone also. It cleans quickly and dries quickly also.

Thanks guys, I'll give the acetone a try. I did try lacquer thinner, but it seems to leave the surface a bit "slimy"

i always put a little sanding dust on the block and give it a quick wipe on my pant leg to start that way the paper won't leave a messy residue . if you get too much dust i kust blow it off with an air gun

Why don't you use wet and dry paper, soak it in water and be done with the clogging and dust?

I believe he is using adhesive backed file roll sandpaper. In certain stages of block sanding, wet sanding is not practical.
