Crane Cams has reopened under the new ownership of S&S Cycle. With manufacturing and sales operations of its ignition and motorcycle lines up and running, the company is newly housed in a facility at 1640 Mason Ave. in Daytona Beach. S&S Cycle acquired Crane’s intellectual properties, patents, trademarks, camshaft masters, inventory and some equipment in April 2009.
S&S Cycle, a well-known manufacturer of American-made V-twin engines often used to power Harley-based custom motorcycles, has reportedly acquired a large portion of assets from the now-defunct Crane Cams organization. S&S says it plans to maintain the Crane Cams dealer and distribution chain intact while it moves the manufacturing services to its home factoryin Viola, Wisconsin.
According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, a team made up of S&S Cycle representatives and former Crane Cams CEO Lance Harris put in a bid of $1.2 million for the Crane Cams name, 16 patents and 3 trademarks, plus an additional $215,000 for the company's leftover inventory.
This deal will likely keep Crane's old and reportedly very outdated manufacturing facility in Florida shuttered, so we're not yet sure what this news will mean for the 280 employees left jobless after the parts company went bankrupt.

While it is unfortunate that the 280 employees are no better off than when the company went bankrupt, at least the patents and intellectual property are remaining in the hands of an American company and not some Chinese tractor factory. I haven't been following bikes closely for a while but S&S seems to be a top-notch company so any Crane Cams product produced under their leadership will probably be very good.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
Wow the name only worth 1 million and it's been a trademark at the dragstrip since they were racing chariots. Their sales must have been going south for some time

Just to add, Crane didn't own the building they were in, it was leased and it's still empty. My office window faces their old building...
The new building is about two miles from here and depending how much of it they leased, could be pretty small. As of last week, they didn't look to be in the building.
From what I hear, they'll be concentrating on the motorcycle and NASCAR stuff first, then ease into the automotive market.
I certainly hope it works out and they hire more of the old employee's back. I sure miss the big BBQ's/open house they had during bike week, literally hundreds of people would show-up eat and have a good time.
I heard they have Chase Knight back with them. He's a great guy. I surely hope they get back in the auto cam business too.
The 555" motor I just built for Snowman's C-3 used Crane for all the dyno testing. We had a solid roller, a Hyd roller and a solid flat tappet in it. All 3 cams delivered the goods!!

I agree, I hope no one thought I meant it was too bad that they are back.
