I put on a new holly street avenger carb that I picked up from someone on the forum.I tried the fuel lines that came with the carb then one from Summit which was a solid double pumper line and then a braided line. All three leak where they screw into the carb. Its more than a small leak the fuel pours out. any suggestions
How much torque did you apply to the fittings ?
Did you use some teflon tape on the threads to allow more tightening torque without seizing ?
What are the fittings and pipes made of ? Stainless steel, chromed copper/brass ? SS ones need a lot of torque.
I have noticed that sometimes, the female carb fitting is just not threaded deep enough for the male fitting.
So, even with a huge amount of torque, the pipe can't be sealed.
This happened to me with a Summit dual feed line and Mr Gasket carb fittings.
So what did I do ? I used a small file on the two first male threads, which allowed the male fitting to go a little further ( about 1/4 turn ) and eliminated the leak.
Most commonly, this is due to either a bad flare - which I think you've ruled out with different lines - or improper tightening. Make sure you seat the flare, then tighten the nut - don't just tighten the nut.
Yes, even if you manage to make the fuel lines leakproof, check everything again with engine at normal operating temperature before you run the car on the road.
Heat and vibrations can sometimes change things... No error is permitted with fuel and hot surfaces...
