I know there is a build sheet somewhere around the gas tank, where exactly is it? Is there any way to see it or know one is there before tearing things apart?
Yes. It's sometimes visible by removing or lowering the rubber boot that surrounds the filler neck and sticking a small penlight flashlight and looking on top of the fuel tank. You can sometimes put your hand along the sides of gas tank and feel up on top from underneath the car and feel the piece of paper that is glued to the top of the tank.
Usually there is a film of dust on top of the tank from many years of use and is sometimes hard to see, dropping the exhaust and lowering one side of the tank is the best.
look around with a good light and mirror mine was on the drivers sidw of tank good luck you can use some felt paper for anti squeak pads when you put tank back in
I found mine last year while I had the spare tire upper cover off to replace the leaf spring and it was dangling on the front side of the fuel tank , it's still there , Ron
This was where my 72 was. But I also found a pristine copy between the Tach and Speedo. I understand this was done occasionally but not sure if it was just 72 or if perhaps also in 71.
I also found a perfect copy between the tach and the speedo (early build '71), stuffed up next to the dash. I've never actually looked to see if there was another on the tank!
I believe that sometimes the sheet was tucked behind the back of the radio. Since so many cars have had the radio changed those sheets are often gone. But still worth a look !
