Default Changing my air cleaner

I was wondering how difficult would it be to remove the stock L48 air cleaner to an aftermarket one,

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...c_chrome.shtml

is there anythig that i should look for, common mistakes people have, pretty much dressing up the engine bay area.

Easy to do. Just make sure you have enough clearance under the hood so it will close, and if you have to have a periodic safety inspection make sure the new style will pass.

You can always keep the old one and swap for inspection.

hmm I read on a different post, in order to install an aftermarket air cleaner i would have to remove

Heat Stove and Heat Riser.

How would this affect the setup for the engine if those two components are removed?

Also is there anything else that I should know when installing an aftermarket air cleaner? so far this is all i know.

ok so far from reading in the forums it looks like i'll need

1.) Oil Breather to replace the breather hose.

2.) Aftermarket Air Cleaner.

3.) Plugs for the Vacuum Hoses.

Then in order to install the new air cleaner I would have to remove the stock air cleaner assembly, then remove the heat stove, am i missing anything else?

Yes, you are going to be missing HP and fuel milage, when you remove the stock cold air intake.

Hey, more bling! As we used to say a half century ago, "If it don't go, chrome it"! Holds true today.

You might also need to modify the choke linkage depending on your choke type and clearance with aftermarket air cleaner base. You shouldn't need to remove the stove, only the hose to the stock air cleaner. You can also modify the base of the aftermarket part to connect the breather hose.

I also agree with glen242. The aftermarket stuff I removed and replaced w/stock parts (air cleaner, carb and intake manifold) eliminated oil leaks, gas fumes, hard starting, keeping in tune and improved gas milage from 7-9 mpg to 16-18 mpg on my daily commute.

Getting the timing and vac advance can combo set right had a bigger impact on performance than all of the aftermarket stuff.

I know others have different experiences, but for a day in/day out driver that I don't want to spend every weekend tinkering with, stock was the way to go.

Oh ok, that makes it easier to just leave the heat stove attatched, but just remove the hose.

Other than that it seems like just swapping out the old air cleaner with a newer one seems easy enough, just gotta make sure everything fits.

1.) Remove air cleaner assembly
2.) Install aftermarket air cleaner // modify choke linkage if nesscary
3.) Install Oil Breather
4.) start her up!

That's true. You want to get air from somewhere in front of the radiator, like the original set-up had.

Default clear the hood

if you are not sure of the hood clearing, put something soft like shaving cream on top of the air cleaner and slowly lower hood. If you raise hood and cream is on hood, too tall. I also usually put a little wax paper or cling wrap on the air cleaner so the cream does not damage it.

I agree this place is awesome. I have only had my vette since last week and have already learned a TON. I know some things about cars but mostly stuff like xfer cases and axles and lifts stuff for off roading vehicles..
