Hi,
After all of the prep work - I am now ready to install my carpet. I know that I need to use the Adhesive Spray (I purchased 3M) on the Console Side Panels and Kick Panels - but where else should I consider Actually Gluing my new Carpet down? I have Sound Deadener and Heat Shielding throughout... I am just not sure where the adhesive points are for all of the pieces besides the ones I mentioned above.
dont know the answer but I have just had carpet front and rear rebuilt and other work done on wifes 78 pace car by Lenard up in Spring area and he does great work and resonable! If interested in having someone do work you might give him a call at 281-804-8194. Good Luck !
Thanks for the Info - but I really want to do this myself. I have spent so much time already on the prep work and the Satisfaction is immense I know I can do the carpet but will just have to take my time and be very careful. I do have my seats being re-upholstered by a professional however... I'm not willing to take on that adventure
Before you install your new carpet set be sure to lay it out in the sun for a day. This will help it take it’s molded shape back.
You really don’t have much need for gluing the front floor area down. Just use the glue to hold down spots where the carpet might appear to raise a little.
In the rear, you may need to put some glue on the area around the wheel wells. This area tends to not want to lay flat sometimes so this will help keep it flat. You’ll also need some on the rear riser if it is not laying flat. The rest will come to you as you install it.
Treat the glue like contact cement. Spray it on the carpet set, spray it on the floor and allow both to dry. Then spray a light coat and stick it down.
I actually only ended up placing some glue on the wheel Humps, Right around the Door Jam area (where the velvet like vertical strip goes), and just around the cargo bay area. The rest of the carpet molded right into place and after a month or so now - still looks great and stays right where it should.
Cheers ~ Joe

The original carpeting had rubber plugs to hold carpet up on vertical sections...3 on the rear cargo area back wall, and 3 on either side of the front firewall of the footwell carpet. Most folks don't bother with those plugs (just glue it back up), but they are available if you want to make it exactly correct.
When I replaced the carpet in my 1980, I had to glue a piece of carpet behind each seat and around the rear speakers. Good idea getting the heat shields, they help a lot.
