Default differential shimming

I am looking for the proper procedure to shim the pinion gear on my 1980 Dana 44. I rebuilt it and now there is a whining sound. Plus it feels like the rear tires load and unload torque a slightly differnt times.
when i let of the gas or accelerate the rearend of the car will shimmy left and right for a split second

If it isn't in the service manual or assembly manual then you'll likely need to ask some of the more experienced folks who work with diffs GTR1999 and a few others. They'll chime in in time. May help speed things up if you describe exactly what you did, measurements taken and such. Basically describe the entire process of the rebuild for people.

If you have the diff together and run, chances are the gears have seated. Maybe not, but don't be surprised if that is the case. Without knowing how the diff was assembled, parts used, it is hard to say. If you have some pictures of the pattern it will help. I don't work on those units, no way, no how but the procedures are similar to the iron units. The case bearings are opposite mounting requiring setup bearings to dial in the pattern. The best 80-82 rebuilder is Mike Dyer, now some may not like to hear this but it's true.
You can try and go back into yours but bearings don't like to be pressed on/off too many times.
Good luck.

I was originaly looking to change my seals as they were all leaking, I then found a broke clip holding the clutch pack and the pack rub very hard on the spider/clutch pack assy housing. I bought a new spider/clutch pack housing assy with new bearings. I also removed the pinion gear and bearings and races to clean the entire assy. I reinstalled pinion with same shims as removed(I assume I did not loose a shim) reinstalled all shims as removed. Now it appears that my pinion is not correct.
