I'm going to install headers on my 1970 350 small block. Two questions:
What's the best choice on types and brands?
Where's the best place to get them?
The engine compartment is clean, but basically unrestored. Since I haven't done any significant restoration under the hood, looks aren't a huge deal to me, but function is.
I had good luck and fit with a set of Hooker competition headers. The 1 5/8 tubes will be plenty big enough for your application. I had mine Jet Hot coated so the ywould look good and not rust. 5 years later they still looked good. I sold them and am running Super Comps now with the same coating. The coating will help them last and hold some of the heat inside the tube. Coatings are not cheap but they do work good.
Ceramic coated headers are popular due to the fact that they do not rust like painted (black) headers. There are many brands available. Ceramic coated headers are more expensive than painted headers. Some use block hugger headers (shortie), but most use full length headers. Summit and Jegs are reasonably priced. Hope this helps.
Big help - I'll check them out. Another reply suggested that the coating helped contain the heat in the tubes - what do you think? As eveyone who's ridden in an older vette knows, engine heat in the passenger compartment is tough in the summer.
