I have an 81 with original engine and 4 speed manual. I am swapping in a 383 this fall and want to also swap tranny's to a5 speed. What suggestions do you have for transmision, no computerized. Allan

I went with the Keisler T45RS Rated at 425HP/425TQ complete kit with C3 shift handle, shipping and handling $2,620.95. It's sitting on my garage floor and plan to install in September.

Hi

Check the surge function on this.
Plenty of threads.
If you use a modern 5 speed out of a modern car, you probably need to use the bellhousing with it and convert to hydraulic clutch.

The Keisler kits are bolt on. ( is the T45 as well a mechanical clutch ? ).
The TKO 500 & 600 definitely are.

The only OEM 5-speed I'm aware will (more or less) bolt in to a C3 is the T5. But GM only put the T5 behind 305, no 350's so longevity behind a healthy 383 may be limited. Go with the Tremec. It only hurts once (when you pay) and from then on it will be a joy.

BTW, if you get the universal GM Tremec and some TLC you can do the swap for ~$2K.

I have installed a couple of the Tremecs in cars and would highly recomend this. If yo uare putting any kind of power to the ground you will grenade the GM boxes out of the Camaros. The Tremecs are a lot stronger and will bolt right in. They are not cheap but they work very well.

Suggest a 3.55 or 3.70 diff for the Kiesler 5sp.

I have the Keisler 5 speed behind a 383 and love it. You will need to modify your transmission support to make it removable...install will be much easier.
