Default Noob wiring question

Well, I just joined the forum and I already have a question. I am restoring a 69 vette and the between the fuse panel and the bulkhead is a 10 guage wire that is cut. It is about 3 inches long and it is the only 10 guage wire in the box. It's either red or orange. It is attached to the back of the acssy fuse at the top left of the box. I think it is the only 30 amp fuse. the only thing that comes out of the other side of the fuse is a plug on the front that says bat. So does anyone have an idea where the wire hooks to and what plugs into the front of the fuse connector? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum. I would highly suggest you get a wiring diagram from Doc's rebuild for your car. It will save you lot sof time and if I can understand it, anyone can. And you will get lots of free help from the folks on this forum. Maybe you should post a pic and go from there.

There's a red 12 gauge that goes to the Pwr Accy terminal on the fuse box that comes from the fusible link at the starter solenoid and looks to be powering the windows, curt lights etc. Here is a wire diagram from a 78', but it should be close to yours.

post a picture. Also, get a wiring diagram specific to your year. They are in the Service Manual, AIM, or separately in a poster from most of the catalogs.

the wire is cut off, crack open the fuse box, and see what it connects to.
while your in there install a new wire in preparation to repair correctly. 69VETT

The older cars have key warning buzzers, different junk plugging into accessory and BAT positions, PW circuit breakers out under the hood, etc. He's better off with a '69 diagram.

Well I would imagin the BAT stands for battery and if the wire from the battery to the fuse box is cut then there will be no power, unless this is power going OUT of the fuse box like ACC power then it could of been for a aftermarket sound system or car alarm. I am no expert but everytime I found a wire cut comming out of the fuse box it was usually something aftermarket installed into it. A 10 guage wire seems pretty aftermarket. Get a wiring diagrame and see if its even on there befor you trouble yourself to much over it.

I had to re read twice to get the exact, so the wire on one side is labelled BATTERY and that is not cut, but the other wire on the other side is the cut one, and the fuse is labeled ACC? I had a same type wire on a third gen camaro which is quit a bit newer, but the wire was for a aftermarket radio that was installed. there are only so many things that will pull off the accessory fuse, but I imagin it varies by car. I pulled the accessory fuse on one camaro I owned and the guages went out.

but as I said dont stress to much a wiring diagram will show you for sure. or maybe someone with the same year model can verify what it runs to.

Thanks for the help. I'll try to get a pic tonight. What kind of wiring diagram would be more descriptive than the one in the assembly manual? It doesn't really show what I am looking for in the fuse pannel.

Hi BF,
Most people find the diagrams that Dr. Rebuild sells to be very helpful because the wires are in color and there are actual photos of the connectors on each wire.
Good Luck!

Alan
