all L88`s were 12.5, and they speak of open chamber heads sometime in the 69 engines. I never found one nor was any of mine open chamber. I only know of the 2.19 and 1.88 valves and that the second design has 7/16 rod bolts and came in the 68 engines. ....I also have used the late camshaft and it is the same as the LS7 cam. The first series L88s used the 560/580 with 3/8 rod bolts and floating pins. I just took them from a crate and transplanted them where I saw fit, boat or car. Just under $1200.00 for the complete engine, and nearly as good as my A990 Hemi. But not quite....

But in my opinion the best single carb engine available....

The PO of Ol' Red and I both worked at a Chevy dealer in 71-72. He got a L-88 under warranty- it did have open chamber heads installed when it arrived, along with the 7/16 rod bolts. Even the stamped numbers along the pan rails that indicate piston size were the same.

Jeff, nice engine but nicer paint! When you first climbed out and the camera was aimed back at the car, it looks like chrome!!!
