Belt alignment ?'s

Well, I'm converting to a serpentine belt drive with the March system and I'm having some problems I hope you can help me with.
First a list of components I've bought:
Summit:
March Pulley kit, p/n: 20420
Powermaster Alternator, p/n: 17294 (polished, one wire)
Water pump: 1394 (short, polished, normal rotation)
PS pump, Type II: SUM-340205 (polished, remote reservoir)
PS pump pulley: SUM-340203
So far, I've mounted the water pump and started installing the ps pump/pulley assembly, and it is misaligned, like 1/4" or so, ps too far forward; and the crank pulley is behind the wp pulley by at least one full groove, about 1/8" or so, probably more. I haven't taken actual measurements, but the MK 1 Mod 0 calibrated eyeball says that it's "out" of alignment.

I think there is some more room behind the ps pulley, but even with a good quality installer, I've put it on as far as I can get it. Afraid to break something. I haven't even gotten to the alternator mounting yet.
The only spacer installed so far is the 1/16" spacer behind the wp pulley, which I thought was supposed to be there. Can the other pulleys be spaced for alignment? Or is there something fundamentally wrong here?
Can I add washers behind the pulleys on the bolts to push the pulleys outward from the engine to line everything up?
Please help!
Thanks!
