I am rebuilding the engine harness on my '71, just trying to get it to a point where the car can be started and driven instead of pushed. I plan to buy a complete harness at a later date, not in the budget, car is not going to be driven on the road, just don't wanna push it anymore.
After the necropsi of the harness I found the fuseables were either in sorry shape (oil/heat damage) or had been poorly replaced, so I am going to swap them out. I found a rotten one that was just twisted on at the 12V supply wire at the starter, and another (missing ) where the 12V in the harness splits out (to the horn relay and the dash). there was no fuse wire on the coli wire from the dash, although it is shown on the wiring diagram I have, but the wire to the WSW system ended with a fuseable instead of the diagrams plug. all fuseable wires were the same black wire, which corresponds to, I think, a 16G (1.0MM) fuseable. Am I missing any others in the engine harness?
Anyway, I have lots of scrap late model harnesses with the fuseable in them, but all are metric and of the 0.5mm, 1.0mm and 3.0mm sizes. From online research, I think I need a 14G fuse wire, which may be a 1.0MM OR a 2.0MM (depending on the source and which I don't have). Also, no luck at the local parts chains, have not tried NAPA yet. Anyone know what modern metric size fuse wires I need to refit this harness? Can I use a 1.0MM as that was what was there when the can was running so long ago?
Most of you supporting vendors have wire harnesses. Like the starter one that has all the fuse/links and plugs etc.
I did on think $100 or less in something that would be need, would drive you to Bubba-isum.

Reason: ops, I need a spell checker!?!
before you connect the repaired harness to the battery, wire it to a 9 volt radio battery and test it for continuity and shorts. the small battery won't generate enough current to melt any fuseable links.
I believe that all Corvette fuse-links were designed to be two gauge sizes smaller wire than the wire running to/from them. If you have a 12 ga. main wire with a fuse-link, the link will be 16 ga. size, etc. Measure the main line wire size, get a piece of wire 2 sizes smaller and match it to the nearest metric size wire. That should do the job. [If you come up with one which is a choice of going to either smaller or larger size, the smaller size is the safer choice for the car...the larger choice is the more convenient choice for YOU].
