Default Strange courtesy light problem

I searched the forum and didn't find an answer so I post it here for your advice:

My courtesy lights (footwell and luggage compartment) are all operational. When i turn the light switch counter clockwise to the manual light position, all illuminate as they should.

Opening a door, however, will not activate the courtesy lights. The "Door Ajar" warning lamp DOES illuminate, so the door ajar switches appears to be good. I tested both doors to confirm. This seems a little odd...

Any quick fix, or should I start delving into the wiring? 1970 454 'vette coupe.

Thanks

Simon.

You have a problem with the jamb switches that are located in the hinge post area. Either the wires are off of them or they have been damaged and will not make correct contact due to dirt or corrosion. You can pull them with 7/16" socket. If you replace them, they are a bit touchy to get correctly installed so you do not damage the new ones by not having them correctly adjusted. IF they are to far out...the door can damage them and you will need to get more due to the staking will become loose and the switch will become ineffective due to too much free play.

The switch at the striker post area at the bottom is the switch that operates your door ajar light..

Cool! So I was looking at the wrong switch. I always thought the door jamb switch was only for the factory alarm (fitted on my car).

Hey, if I had the alarm relay and flasher disconnected, could that also be interrupting the circuit? I'm replacing mine as they were corroded and they are all currently disconnected...I betya that's the cause, thinking about it.

Thanks for the heads up - you got my brain thinking about this more logically. They worked before I disconnected the alarm relay/flasher...

Cheers!

S.

Well, in the spirit of concluding, I determined it's only the door jamb switches...wiggle them and the lights come on. Alarm schmalarm - nothing to do with it.

For years I pulled my battery cable off of the battery because of a short on my 68. Not until I pulled the body for my frame off did I find the problem, the curtesy light switch wires had come loose from the back of the switch on the driver side and fell down to the frame.
