Wiper Door Help Needed

I got a new motor and new wiper blades installed this evening and they work fine. The switch works fine too. I did not try the washer pump, but it is full of washer fluid.
The wiper door will not open when I turn on the switch. It does open when I pull the override **** under the dash, though.
If I open the wiper door with the override first, I can use the switch to turn on the wipers and change the speed. I can make it work like this if I have to, but I would like to get it operating like it is supposed to.
I was wondering if anyone knew what the problem could be.
This may help you in the repair.

I will check the wiper solenoid. That seems to be the logical problem at this point.
I do need to replace the vacuum lines, as these are probably the originals. I bought a complete kit with a parts car, so I might spend the evening re-routing these lines.
Thanks for the information! That 9-page tutorial is a MUST TO HAVE!
Just the same, you could get wet Labor Day weekend.

Easy Mike, thanks for the weather info. The chances are, if I go to Bowling Green, it will rain.
I was exaggerating a bit, but I have been to Bowling Green for the last 5 years an average of 3 times each year. It has rained at least once every time I go. I typically go to the C5/C6 Bash every year. I have been to the CF Cruise-in once, a couple of Christmas trips with my wife, once when I picked up my 82 in Chicago I stopped in, and once I stopped in on my way to the Tail of the Dragon. It rained at the NCM and at the Tail that time. This year I stopped in during the Hot Rod Power Tour and it poured. Fortunately, I was in the NCM the whole time it rained, and the Rain-X on my windshield was all I needed once I got back on the road to finish the rest of the tour!
One day, I will go to Bowling Green and the weather will be perfect. Maybe it will be this time, now that the wipers are working.
