Hard shift into drive
I am wondering if it is normal for a '79 to have a pretty hard jerk and the rear end feels like it is getting pressed down a little when I shift into drive. I have the car completely stopped and the brakes fully applied when I shift. It has the original automatic transmission. I did test drive a another one before I purchased this one and it did the same thing, so part of me thinks this is somewhat normal. Your thoughts.....

The rear squat is pretty normal but shouldn't be real prominent. How hard it hits when you go from P or N to drive will depend upon the idle speed (this affects squat, too), and the condition of the pinion support bushing/bracket, though it could be other drivetrain parts as well. This is where taking someone with some C3 experience would be helpful in a pre-purchase inspection.
. should be around 475-500 for a hydraulic cammed motor.
