Default Nitrous Oxide Install

I was wondering what type of kits some of the guys on here run and did you share your fuel system between the motor and N20 or run a seperate small fuel cell. What type of timing retard device are you using? Do you usually launch with it or hit it after the fact?

I'm about ready to start setting up for mine and was just curious what works good for the guys that run it regularly.

I had an Edelbrock rpm performer nitrous kit on my camaro. The solenoids would flow the full 275 hit plus. They would handle 1100 PSi bottle pressure too, best plate kit in my opinion. I had a very expensive fuel system on the car at that time, as i was tired of the Holley blue pump crap that everybody loves to run and wonder why thier car runs like a bag of crap. BG fuel systems are no better with constant failure rates.

I ran an SX fuel injected pump, good for 1300 HP and their regulator designed for a carb application. The fuel system required a #10 An feed with a # 8 an return line to the cell. Do not run a dead head regulator setup with nitrous, you wont get a constant steady fuel pressure. Besides fuel systems on race cares are about FUEL VOLUME, NOT PRESSURE. I ran one fuel pump with 2 regulators, one for the carb which was set @ 6-3/4 psi and one for the nitrous solenoid which was set at 6-1/4 psi flowing.

Now for ignition, i ran a Crane digital 6 box, with 2 step and timing retard best ignition ever in my opinion. The timing retard would activate with the nitrous solenoids off the carb micro switch.I mounted the retard ajustment on the back of the shifter, nice easy access to it.

As far as the tuneup went, we set it all up on the dyno so i knew what i had before it went into the car. For the 150 hit i took out 10 degrees timing, and 12 degrees for the 250 shot. With the fuel pressure set to 6.25, and the timing set with 12 degrees of retard, we also swapped the nitrous and fuel pills on the kit and ended up with 306 HP out of the 250 hit. Not too bad. I ran the NGK 9 race plugs, with non projected tips, 2 steps colder than what i ran on the street for regular driving the car.

Hope this helped?

Great response Grumpy. You covered everything I was looking for. I have a Digital 6 box with nitrous retard and 2 step already and I think I am going to do a separate fuel pump and regulator for the N2O, too. From what I've read the return on the N20 fuel is a must like you said.
Thanks!
