I have a 79 W/ A Q jet performer intake. I want to get a Edelbrock RPM intake. My question is, Will my accelerator , trans and cruise control, vacuum lines ect. fit like my Performer does?
One issue that you'll definately have is the new carb height. The plenum of the RPM is higher so the carb will end up higher. Your stock air cleaner probably won't work but a drop base one should. As I recall, the throttle and kickdown cables are mounted to the carb base so they should be fine. I think the cruise control is mounted to the intake base so I expect you'll have to do something to compensate for the height difference. There are various mounting points on the RPM for other vacuum accesories so presumably you'll find reasonable mounting places for these.
I have the RPM and you will have to change the air intake, it will not fit under the hood otherwise. at least for my 79.
Question, did you change the cam or heads or anything else? The RPM works from 1500 to 6500, and you stock cam works from idle to about 5-5500 rpm, thus will your manifold be mismatched to your engine. The standard Performer is better for a mostly stock engine, IMHO.
I have the Performer intake, 14 inch dia, 3 inch high, drop base, open element air cleaner and an HEI distributor. I had to slightly trim the base part of the air filter unit to clear the wire boots at the top of the distributor. They do contact the element a little. You have to remove the filter to change ignition timing, otherwise, no problem.

I had a stock '69 SB hood with the RPM intake and it fit. I now have the same intake with a BB hood, a wooden spacer, a 1 1/4" drop base, and a 3x14" air cleaner from AFE (would have cost $93). I went from the original intake to the the RPM and I can feel the effortless acceleration in 4th and 5th gears. My car never did that with the stock one. Would my mild cam benefit more from just a performer?
Not to hijack this thread - I was at Island Dragway to get some practice for the next Corvette Challenge at Etown (10/10/09). I managed a runner up finish with 26 cars.
