Rebuilding my ta's today ..all was going good. Got the right side done .. spindle bearing clearance of .0025 with a stock .121 shim. Started setting up the left side and couldn't believe it. Used a .127 shim for initial setup and had .008 free play (too loose for me, maybe I'm ****). Anyway, what are the odds that both sides need the same shim thickness. So I packed it up for the day, went to the store and bought a lottery ticket and cracked a cold one.
Guess it's off to to machine shop on Monday.
Well....you won't hit the lottery tonight; you used up all of your 'luck' with the trailing arms! Nice work. I could go into a discussion about the tolerance stack up on parts machined at the same time...but I won't. I will say that it is not unusual for like parts made at the same time to be very close to the same size. Now, parts made on different days....that's another story.
Actually its not unusual. My experience is that most will use the same shim or one very near to it. It is because they are machined to the same size theoretically, so the shims tend to be the same.
