Car will not start 70
I rebuilt the engine (30 thousands over) crank ground. I rebuilt the carb twice (Quad jet). Car starts fine, kick gas down once to close the choke and it fires right up. Some times when you leave it idle after the engine gets to running tempture it will start sputtering and act like it has a vacuum leak and shut down. The car is then impossible to start. If you leave it sit for a couple of hours it starts right up again.
At first I thought it was the choke but at hot engine the choke is pulled off as it should be.
Then I thought it was lack of gas, but dumping gas down the carb does not help in starting it still does not start.
The carb float might be set a little lean, and on the bench the carb pump seem to enrich the gas cycle but on the car you do not see gas coming out of the enrichment jets when you step down on the gas.
The engine and carb were all originally rebuilt in late 2004 and run for a short time and have not been fired up again until now. After 6 year and a lot of work the car is about ready to hit the streets, but I would like to feel comfortable that if I take it out I can get it back without calling a tow truck. Any ideas?
