I just finished up doing the 700r4 swap (yeah i know, been milking the chicken on this one) and took it for a test spin. I put the car in OD and take off. It feels a little sluggish but is rolling. I get to where gut instinct tells you it should shift and it wont. I get back home and adjust the TV cable adjustment on my carb (went with a Bowtie overdrives TV made EZ kit) I tried it first with it all the way tight for the first test drive. On the second one, i backed it out to about half way and tried again. The car takes off better, but still wont shift. When I got back home, I tried it on all the way opposite from the origninal and still no luck. I also tried the lockup controller through all ranges and no effect. What do I do now? My gut feeling is the new trans has something wrong with it. Here's the pieces i have in so far:
1. Standard rebuilt 700r4
2. B.O. TV made easy kit
3. B&M lockup controller
Push the TV cable housing all the back thru the lock, then give it full throttle. It should pull the cable housing out. That is your base adjustment. From there, no more than 2 clicks either way to tailor the shifts. 1-2 shift should happen between 8-15 MPH with light throttle.

If your the person who rebuilt the trans,, did all the clutchs work well while doing the compressed air checks ? are you positive all the check ***** are correctly in place (this happened to me). I got excellent advice from the Turbobuick forum,, they have a transmission section and these guys will help out,, good luck !!
I had similair problems with the 200-4R setup I just put in my 78. Also bought everything from BTO. I ended up releasing tension on the TV cable itself after setting it using the WOT way, not the adjustment with the allen screw. You would be surprised how much difference 1 or 2 clicks make on that TV cable. I was able to bring my shift points down that way.
I'm no trans guru but if you are using the stock shifter and you try manually shifting from 1st it won't work. The shift gate must be notched to go into 1st. Also if it is in 2nd gear some 700r4 will start off in 2nd as a poormans traction control. Your TV cable will make very early shifts if it is too loose and very late/firm shifts if too tight. Any other symtom while in drive is internal(asumming selecter is in drive on the trans detent)
IMHO: Order the pressure gauge from BTO ($35) and hook it up. It sounds like you have a misadjustment of the TV cable, but you'll never prove it until you have the pressure gauge hooked up.
Go to BTOs site and download their pressure gauge paper and follow the set-up. You should get some good support from them also as you bought the TV made EZ spring kit.
My experience:
UNIVERSAL TV CABLE
The new built up 700R4 tranny I purchased locally from a very reputable builder came with a universal TV cable. I could not get that one to set correctly no matter what I did. It does not have a detent action on it, only a clip lock, and unless you know the proper length setting for your application, you'll never get it, unless you have the pressure gauge set-up while your adjusting it.
DETENT TV CABLES
On my 82, which has the 700R4 as OEM, I had my original cable from the old tranny. Since the universal was no help, I decided to use the original. Alas no proper shift could be obtained using my supposedly original and the proper GM detent set method of full throttle movement. My 700R4 was rebuilt in 1991 by the previous owner and I believe the TV cable was replaced at that time. It worked, except I think it may have caused my tranny to loose 3-4 clutch pack over time.
So I go out and buy a new cable, no luck. Then another from a different source, no luck. These were supposed to be the correct TV cable but were both 37 inches long and no matter what I did, I could not get an adjustment that worked.
I found a 3rd supplier that made the same application cable, but is was only 35 inches long, and this made all the difference in the world. Tranny now shifts like it is supposed to, using the proper set method of full throttle movement to set the detent action lock.
In the end it took me 4 TV cables to get it right.
Hope your not forced to have as much fun as I had with it.
