Ocassionally the ignition key will not rotate completely to allow the column to lock and the key to be removed on my '72. I read the tech tips on removing the lock however I am not sure that is the problem. Can anyone steer me in the right direction to diagnose the problem.
Go out under the hood. Look under the brake master cylinder. You will see the lower end of the steering column sticking out of the dash panel. There will be a lever coming out of the column. It will be pointing toward the engine. There should be a cable attached to the lever. When you shift into PARK (auto trans) or into REVERSE (manual trans) the cable should push the lever UP (about 2 o'clock as viewed from the driver seat). Try "helping" the lever to full up and see if the key is now able to reach OFF-LOCK and the key is now able to come out of the lock cylinder. Otherwise, disconnect the cotter pin and release the cable from the column lever. Now move the lever full UP. See if that allows you to reach OFF-LOCK.
The cable could be missing, disconnected, corroded, or kinked.

Jim,
Thanks for the help. I will report back with hopefully no issue.
