Default Gear Shift Cable Bracket Location

Is the gear shift cable bracket held to the to the transmission pan with the last two bolts or the middle two? The picture in the AIM does not show exactly which bolts hold it to the pan. If someone can take a pic it is appreciated. Vette is a 79 and has a TH-350 automatic transmission.

That's a lot of years ago so hopefully he's got it figured out by now.

If yours is a 71 it should be a TH-400

Mooser, I just tried sending a reply and it didn't work so if you get this twice I apologize. I wanted to ask if you have a pic of the position of the lever assy when in park? Also, the back cable that you show in the pic above, where does that lead? When I work my lever from park to the various gears the insulation of this cable actually pushes away from the round metal connector shown in your pic. Does this mean that this cable has to be replaced?

The email system seems to be wonky, not getting notices until the next day etc.

The back cable in the picture (front of trans) goes up to the steering column and controls the steering wheel lock

Here's a couple of other pics that may or may-not help

those are great. One last question and I'll leave you alone. The other end of the cable that goes toward the back of the car. Do you have any pics of that area? I don't know what to call it actually and I couldn't find anything in the other catalogs; perhaps b/c I don't have the correct terminology. Looked in the "build" guide from GM, but doesn't show this detail.

Other end of the cable to the back of the car, are we still talking shifter or do you mean the emergency brake cable?

Or maybe the speedometer cable at the back of the trans, drivers side?

Maybe he's talking about the steering column interlock cable connection from the trans to the steering column base at the firewall?

going to work on it today. I'll check. I'm not sure what I'm talking about anymore. Great pics of emergency brake cable though. I've got that part done okay, but I'll use your pics as a QA process.

Thanks. I'll get back to you when I know exactly what I'm asking.
