vent ball felt seal

Default vent ball felt seal

How do you installl these. I have the dash out but not sure how the felt is applied

Turn the 'ball' downward 90 degrees...so the openings are headed UP and DOWN. Grab the outer edge of the ball and pull it out. Clean the old seals/glue/ whatever off the opening on the dash panel. Install the new seals where you removed the others. Orient ball as it was when you removed it and pop it back in. Rotate it to its normal position.

no seals on the old ones so I dont know where they go... is it one in front and one in back

Here's what it looks like with the vent ball removed.


And here's the hard plastic tube that the felt sits in, you can see the ridge that the felt lays against.

I've never had to replace the felts before, those pictures are just parts I have. Hopefully someone that has will be along soon.

The two felts just make a ring in the groove to surround the ball.

You can do the same thing with a strip of black felt from a fabric store. Just use double-sided tape or some weatherstripping adhesive. There is no force placed on the except for the smooth surface of the ball. The adhesive isn't the 'weak link'; the fabric just wears out. Pull the ball, clean surfaces and glue in new felt strips, insert ball. Voila.
