Default Oil Temp Sender

Does anyone know what tool I need to remove the plug that is in the block above the oil filter (where the oil temp sender goes)? It looks like a square drive but a 1/4 is too small and 3/8 is too big. Maybe mine is stripped because it doesnt like allen wrenches either.

Forgot where I left my 5/16 drive.

It turns out it is a stripped 1/4. Now it has an Easy-out stuck in it. The easy-out broke through and the plug isnt moving with an impact wrench. It looks like I will have to try drilling the plug out.

is this inthe car? if not put a torch to it and then hit it with a candle the wax will get sucked in the threads and the plug will turn out

It is still in the car.

Will I get promoted to Super-Bubba if I try that anyway? I can get at it fairly easy from underneath (got headers so more room). I have not tried any penetrants yet.

We all come back to super bubba once in a while. Go for it. (Just be ready in case you start a fire), after all you want the car to survive for future bubba moves.

penetrants wont work......well you only go to super bubba if you burn the car up , i would have to think twice about doing this on an engine in the car......make sure its very clean down there with no or grease on the engine block.....the wax trick is a very old standard remedy and you will not believe how well it works.....

Good news is I did not burn up the car and I did get the plug out. I just couldnt get comfy with a torch under there, even if it looks clean. I just had visions of flaming wreckage.

I hit it with PB-Blaster and went to the hardware store for a larger Easy-out. When I got back I drilled it, used the larger extractor and voila, out came the plug.

Oil temp gauge works fine and no Super-Bubba; good weekend IMHO
