headlight switch question
There is a small metal tab on the headlamp switch that controls the vacuum. You can't see it but when it breaks the switch will not control the vacuum.

I have the dash open about 2 inches, so I can see the electrical connections on the switch, I can also see where the two vac hoses hook in...can you explain where the metal tab is? How does the switch come out if I need to replace it? thanks, your advice is always great, you helped me repait my tach last year.
You have to take the switch apart to see the tab. Here is a picture of a switch exploded.
Yes you'll need to replace the switch to fix it.
68-77 to obtain access to the switch you'll need to pull the LH dash pad loose enough to get to it. I can't tell you to remove switch by removing the three screws on the side.... and pulling the dash pad outward... But some have stated it can be done this way. If I tell you to do it this way and you break the dash pad... You know the drill! However if you take all the dash pad screws loose you should be able to pull the entire pad backwards and get to the switch.
78-82 remove the tach and speedo housing from the dash, (instructions are on our site for this) and you can reach right in to change.
Not shown in the pictures below… On the bottom of the switch is a release button. This button when pushed will release the **** and shaft from the switch. Once you have the **** off you'll see a spanner nut that holds the switch to the dash. Once you remove this nut, you can pull the switch out.
