Anyway, here goes: It appears that you are trying to decide which engine to buy, an LS2 or a big block Chevy 454, that you wish to have a 500 horsepower engine, and which engine is more reliable, solid, and easy to maintain.
If this is true, we need a little more information, such as:
What car is the engine going into? What engine is in the car now? How much money do you have to spend?
The LS2 will probably be the best engine in the long run, but may cost more to do. It has a more modern design, fuel injection, aluminum block, etc.

the questions asked in post #2 will lead to more opinions..
without any further information from your end, i offer this:
i built a 383 ci stroker in my '94 LT1 small block.. love it
bought a '64 non-matching numbers car with plans to make it a big block car one day..
bought an '01 Z06 with mild top end work and fell in love with the LS engine..
subsequently immediately changed my plans for the '64 and bought an Ls2 for it and mated it to a TKO600.
500hp is an easy number to attain in any chevy engine. my 383 has over 40K miles on it now and has required nothing more than oil and spark plugs for maintenance. it's definitely north of 500hp, making tons of power off the line but out of breath at 5400 rpm (will rev to 6000rpm). my '01 Z06 is at 500hp with only mild top end work and it pulls hard at the top end, all the way to 6800rpm when i'm forced to shift!
all that said, i may soon own a C3 with 700hp big block
