Default Battery gauge problem

I have a 1976 corvette and have no power coming to the battery gauge. All my other gauges didn't work but found the problem behind the fuse box. I know the feed is differant on the battery gauge. Does anyone know where the battery gauge feeds from? It isn't on the gauge fuse. Where would one look first for not getting 12v on the plug that goes onto the gauge? Thanks for your help. Bill

The 2 wires going to the amp gauge are black/white and black both 18 gauge. Each one has an orange fusible link where they connect in the engine compartment. You will have to physically pull on the links and see if they stretch, there is power coming from both sides so a test light won't work. A burnt fusible link is what I usually find.

Just use a 'pin' probe on your voltmeter to poke through the insulation and see if you have 12vdc on either side of the fuse-links. The fuse links protect the gauge if there is any major short in the system. I don't know if a '76 has an ammeter {reading current flow 'amps' in the electrical system} or a voltmeter {reading voltage 'volts' in the system}, but they are wired and operate much differently. If the wiring is correct and the fuse-links are not 'open', your meter should read. It could also be that the meter is defective or the wiring connecting it to the system is faulty (behind the gauge bezel).

That won't work on this circuit, the link will still show 12 v on both sides of the link even though its burned in two.
