I just bought a 1969 corvette convertible. Bought it from a dealer that got it from an estate auction, been sitting for 20 years. My question is I want to rebuild the front and rear suspension totally. Using poly bushings rather than rubber. What is the best way to buy, as a kit or individually? Vansteel looks like they have a complete kit for $779 good price? This is my first vette so I'm looking for a bit of help
I got composite rear spring, matching front springs, 4 KYB shocks, Front and rear swaybar kit, All polly control arm bushings and rear polly housing bushings for $800.00 US from Ecklers. It was cheaper in a kit form.
Be sure the kits you compare have all the same components. Some I have seen do not include things like cotter pins, sway bar bushing brackets and such. If you need to add a bunch of little hardware bits to complete your job, the more complete kit is a better deal.
been looking at different websites and the only one that shows moog parts is van, do any others have them in their kits?
Last year I replaced everything and bought from VanSteel . . . poly bushings, springs, shocks, rebuilt T/As, rebuilt O-ring calipers, rotors, sway bars, rearend cover, adjustable struts, and a bunch of misc. parts. Dan and team know their stuff and really helped a rookie like me get what I needed and helped me get installed. While I was putting in one weekend, I emailed Dan for a torque spec and he answered back within 30 minutes. He then followed up with me on Monday to see how things went. That is how I define GREAT customer service. You can't go wrong with them. Oh, and I got their suspension DVD which really helped me see what the process was and they had several great tips, worth the $20.
Moog is a brand name. They make the best front end parts available and the reason for the high cost. Moog parts cost 2-3 times more than offshore brands. With Moog, you get what you pay for. I do list 2 different kits on my site for guys that don't want to spend that much money. Our house brand uses Italian parts vs Chinese.
Be sure to lube them up real good; poly bushings are notorious for squeaking. I used marine grease on mine. Also use Loctite on all the bolts; I think many have had issues with poly bushings backing out bolts.
