Not the dash. the passengerside panel that has the glove box door in it. That whole panel comes out. You already have removed the screws on the one side when you removed the guages. Open your passenger door and look along the door jam area...there should be two screw that hold the other side. when you remove the screws that whole piece comes out.

I just went back and looked at your pictures. Is your dash one Piece? I have never seen that. My passenger side and driver side is separate.

If its one piece I wouldn't take it out. I would loosent the screws on the passengerside door jam so you can pull the dash out enough on the bottom to free the duct which is probably in your way.

Default Dash

It looks like you are really close to taking the total dash out. You have about another 1/2 hour to go.

Well its been a week and still no luck? I have all the duct work out, and still cannot find any bolts to remove the box? Looks like the dash will have to come completely out to get this done.

looks like there are some more bolts in the engine compartment around the box and fan, will remove those as well to see if things loosen up?

Yes, you need to remove the nuts on the engine side. I believe there is 5 of them. One is up under the fender and not easy to see.

Remove the glove compartment door and the passangers side air duct. The heater core comes out from the inside of the car, you do not have to remove anything from the outside. There are a few bolts that have nuts on them on the outside of the heater/AC box you need to remove. I just finished a 78 and I did my 81. This job is not that bad compared to others I have done.

It's fine that you have the center section out, you need that out to remove the larger duct.

Remove the box on the right. where you see the brown/rust on the heater door

We knew you could do it. Hoses go on last.

Just frustrating, the glue and weather striping on the back of the box held it in place making it feel like there were some bolts not out yet.
Will get it back in place this weekend. Thanks for all the help.

Well its all back in this morning, i also ran a new bead of duct seal on the engine compartment side. I have finished washing all the plastic duct work, and will have to make a few tabs and secure it ll back in place.

Steps i took.

1-remove Passenger seat & glove box door and inner compartment.

2-remove the 2 dash screws in the door jam.

3-remove gauge cluster radio and center consul.

4-remove all plastic duct work under dash.

5-remove all air lines and one heat control cable off of top of heater box.

6-remove inside heater box screws, 2 lower easy to see and one top right.

7-remove 3 engine compartment nuts and one screw. one easy to see 3 under fender. cut heater hoses off core from under car after removing clamps.

8- gently pry heater box off from inside of car, the 2 way tape holds pretty good and
makes it feel like there is still a bolt there.

9-there is a little bit of twisting to get the box out, this requires the dash being loose on the pass side.

I got frustrated and a bit pissy with it, but now that i have done one, i know how to do it and its not that bad. I hope this helps the next guy doing it.
