Default Engine Block Decode

I have owned by '77 for a few years know, and still don't know if I have a 327 or 350...Here's the story. I bought the car a few years ago on e0bay. The guy was not a vette guy, he received the car as payment for some contracting work he did. He told me he thought the car had a 327 in it. I pulled the numbers of the block, and they say that it could be either a 327 or 350. I tried to replace the starter last week and it has offset holes..which come to find out... the only starter to fit the car was one for a 1968 327. How can I tell for sure what engine I have...other than the block numbers, what other numbers can I look for and where are they located?

Post the block casting number, and the casting date, and the stamping pad in front of the right head.. post all these numbers and perhaps we can tell you what it is, or at least what it is supposed to be... one never knows what is really inside the engine of a 32 year old car... who knows if 5 owners ago it might have been stroked and bored..
but let us know the numbres you find...

Default 327/350?

For a quick check your 77 block casting # should be 3970010.
