Default two grounds on 68 speedometer, why and where

why are there two and where does the one that is attaced with a nut go?

I'm not sure there are two. Dash harness ground plugs up to a spade terminal.

Post a pic of what you've found.

The '71 AIM shows two ground wires coming out of the harness bundle behind the speedo. One (with a plastic push-on clip) mounts to the spade-lug attached under the right-most screw on the speedo attachment plate; the other one has a crimp-on loop/lug and is shown loose but out toward the door jamb. I don't believe that one is to go to the speedo also, or it would show it attached. Maybe it goes to the door or the left-side underdash lamp.

The ring lug sounds like the main harness ground to me. It would mount to the driver's door hinge post.
