Default 72 front support rod question

I'm getting ready to mount the front clip and I have an issue with the front clip support rod. Here's the C.Central version.
http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb....Z5Z5Z50000050G

Here's a pic of mine.

Mine has a 90 degree at one end, no twist or anything, perfect 90 and the other end is angled like the pic. The C Central pic looks like there might be a slight twist at the 90. It's suppose to bolt straight to the rad cradle(90) but it's way off and so is the angle at the other end. My nose is a no hit front so it can't be that far out. Does anybody have a pic of a rod for me. Another question, what is that other rod in my pic for?

Rob

Yours is the longer of the two in the photo...correct? One end goes to the bottom of the radiator support. The other end goes to the brace that is riveted to the front of your top hood sorround...and your rod will pass uder where your front nose emblem is attached. There is a slot in the front top hood surround bracket (in front of your headlights) so you can install this bracket. The bracket that you purchased was used to bolt to the headlight support beam...at the back...in between your headlights...in order to aid in keeping this area from sagging and aid in support. On cars like your...I often times have to manufacture a rod-brace to aid in this problem...that GM corrected in later years.

Hi Rob,
Dub is right on, I'll only add that the end of the rod with the right angle bend is at the core support when it's installed.
Regards,
Alan

Rob,
Here's one out of a '68. Let me know if you need any pictures from different angles or anything else.

Years ago, I had another GM car that had a similar rod in there, and it caused some extra damage in what was a very minor front bumper collision by prev/owner......

I removed the one in my '72 some 15 years ago....car is fine...

IF that rod had been there, I BET when that Verizon truck backed into me, that rod would have acted to bend the rad support, and maybe damage the rad also....

Well, here's the thing, I know exactly where the rod goes, it just doesn't fit. It looks like an original part from it having a bit of pitting, it never came off my car though. The 90 degree end does not sit flat with the rad cradle , way off, and the front upper end angle is not even close to being flat with the front support surface. I did see a pic from someone years ago on here and their rod was bent to clear the center grill.

As far as the second rod goes, it looks like a 58-60 dash support rod as far as I can see.

Rob, not to change the topic but put your hood on first before your bond your front end on.

Thanks, I totally agree. Just moving and mounting the clip will stress the glass up front not to mention mounting issues. Just so people know, you really should put on all the mounting hardware, that would be the front bumper, outside bumper supports, bumperettes...etc...after the clip is mocked up just so you are sure everything is straight before you glue this thing, you really only have one chance before you create a huge mess from misalignment.
