Default door skin help

started rebuilding my 1980 doors today and completly dissasembled the drivers door for rebuilding.

got about half way through dissasembly and noticed about a gallon of body filler in the door.

how hard is it to change a door skin on this 1980 vett?

the cheepest door skin i have found is corvette central and it is still 339.00 bucks for each door skin.

can anybody give me the process of getting the door skin off and new one on?

any advice on this would be very helpfull to me right now

thanks for the help guys

Very simple actually. It is just glued onto the framework. So, separate with a putty knife or blade of some kind and remove the skin. Bond the new one to the frame.

Use a heat gun to heat the metal side, then a Sharp, Thin putty knife to cut the glue around the perimiter of the door.

i went ahead and bought a used door complete from a salvage yard because my door frame was also missing the spot welded brackets for the arm rest.

my door skin was junk anyway so i took a heat gun and got as much as i could with that it worked pretty good till i got to the area where the outside mirror bolted to the door they glued it onto a bracket inside the door at this point.did not find that out until i cut the panel with my die-grinder.

i found a whole complete door with everything in it for 647.00 this seemed to be the best way for me to go on this with the new door skin costing me 339.00 and the window i had had a chip in it to and then the stipped out holes and no bracket for my armrest to bolt to just seemed better to buy a used door.
