I see that rebuild kit doesn't supply this piston seal. Might that be the problem?
I've never seen that seal bad. The only time I see a piston problem is when they are broken and I would have to guess its from being frozen in the winter and trying to compress ice.
I.go with Roger on this point my piston seal still good since 1972-pump original no replacement parts i can asertain and no leak past but my car lived Arizona its early life and here in u.k. over last 26 years never seen freezing temps like you guys see.
Still don't like that spring and your 50% top notch but we don't see too-ooo many of these 40-50 designed mech pumps over here in the u.k.
Please take in to account this is a one plus cubic inch mechanical pump from 1974 in can't deliver the quantity or pressure of a modern electric pump ;when you get there.
Im following your thred hope you don't mind me chiming in now and again but really want you to get to the finishing line otherwise i get ota herefor your sake
regards SAM.

I've watched the videos a few times, i may be wrong but i think the pawl should settle into the slot on the circumference edge of the cam wheel, it doesnt seem to quite make it by a fraction of an inch.Could be that distorted thin spring?? gunge or outa align pawl bracket.
Some one will clarify soon hopefully. SAM.
Moonsteel I think you just have your levers out of sync.
Question: when your wife says "its up" obviously shes talking about the lever with the tooth hanging down. What were you doing to get the lever to go up ? If you were pushing the wiper button in to the wash position we can move on BUT if you were releasing the button we have a problem there.
Moving on to the 2 levers and the synchronization. In the still pic of your first vid the tooth lever should have the tooth in the down position, hanging over the edge of the wheel. See if you can gently move the tooth lever towards the front of the car and get the tooth to drop off and the tooth lever to fall down. Then operate the wipers and see if it they work right.
(I'm not sure why and how its in that position because usually one full turn will generally re sync the levers. )
In the neutral "no pumping" position the tooth lever should be "under" the other lever preventing it from grabbing teeth and turning the wheel. Yours has the tooth lever above the other lever.
See if you can gently move the tooth lever towards the front of the car and get the tooth to drop off and the tooth lever to fall down. Then operate the wipers and see if it they work right.
Took some pics. From what I can tell, the resting position seems to be just short of where it needs to be to push the larger arm out and down.
Is that possible?
Moved over towards front of car, from shot from each side
Thanks. For what it's worth I found a fix. A medium sized zip tie on the end of the pump rod will provide just enough additional 'pull' to allow the main cog to spin properly. Sorry, should have taken a picture.
