Default rear lowering bolt question.

i am lowering the rear of my 71 ls5. it has a composite trw rear spring. i see ecklers has a long bolt kit that has a metal spacer on top of the rubber bushing that looks like it goes into the hole of the spring to protect it from wearing out. the vbp kit just has the rubber bushing with no metal washer on top to protect the hole. does it make a difference. i don't want to ruin my trw composire rear springs. thanks

I believe that extra funky washer you're talking about is actually a perch for the trailing arm, not the spring. The spring should have its own integrated perch for the bushing. There have been quite a few posts on this the last few days. Let me try to find one of those pictures....

Here, take a look at this picture. You'll see that extra washer (really a bushing perch) on the trailing arm.

I agree with tshort. That cup is for the trailing arm. The spring should already have one.

Here is the Willcox number.

You need a total of 4 cushion retainers. 2 in the spring and 2 in the t-arm. They should already be there but you can replace them if your old ones are ruted through or look bad.

I tried this without using the extra washer and the bushing disintegrated fairly quickly. Been a year since I installed these bolts with the washers and still going with no problem.'

i was told by vbp that only the rubber ones have the shoulder collar washer. the nylon do not as they are molded in to the new bushing. i ordered the nylon so i won't be needing them. i hope.
