I finally was able to bolt in the engine/tranny to the car last week. I've installed the shifter linkage, z-bar, etc. When I press in the pedal, it definitely feels like the clutch is completely disengaged, however I'm unable to shift out of neutral. With or without the pedal pressed in, it I can shift into the 2nd or 4th gear "area", but the tranny is definitely remaining in neutral (so no actual gear change). There's no movement into the reverse/1st/3rd region. I'm pretty sure I've either messed up the linkage install or something is wrong with it. Can anyone please post some pics of how the linkage is bolted to the tranny (I have a hurst shifter) and/or any ideas as to why I'm unable to shift.
The car is a '71 with an M20 and ZZ454. Thanks for the help.
Gary, did you mean to attach a file? I don't see any link or file to download??? Let me know. Thanks!
Also, I read a PDF about a hurst install I got of a Chevelle site (http://go.mrgasket.com/pdf/3737834.pdf), but to be honest I don't understand exactly what it's talking about. It's saying something about aligning the rods to the neutral positions, etc. Maybe my rods are all messed up, but I don't really know where to go from here. Does the above PDF make more sense to any of you guys?
With the rods OFF the trans, move all three levers- the 2 that are on the side cover should have 3 positions and the rearmost one has 2. Move the 2 on the side cover to the center and then the rearmost one to neutral. Prove this by turning the output shaft. If you can turn it- neutral. If you look at the shifter body, at the bottom where the levers go into it there is a 1/4 notch or hole. Put a rod #17 in the pdf. (I use a drill bit) in that to lock the shifter body in neutral. Then install the rods so the slip easily into the holes and pin them. Pull the lock pin out and you should be done.

You should be able to see the scan of the AIM page. Do you have the stock shifter or a Hurst after market?
