Default 1969 Electrical question

I just put a new motor in and the car, electrically, is dead. Nothing works. No headlights, horn, nothing.

A few questions:

1) There is a big connector under the steering column, near the bright switch. Getting it apart is easy. There are a bunch of little connectors that stick out. There is a brown wire there that is fried. How do you remove one of those little connectors from the harness?

2) Where can you buy new ones? They seem unique.

Thanks. I’ll keep working on the other issue of why my car is dead.

The main electrical feed is hooked up at the starter main. on the same large stud at the starter as the main + batt cable. Theres a brown fusible link about 3 inches from the hook up in the wire. if this didn't get hooked back up, or if the fusible link died, that could be a cause. You can get replacement connectors from one of the harness manufacts- do a search on 'wiring harness replacement' for them,, name escapes me right now.

Is it ok just to cut the wire and hook up to the other end bypassing the coupler?

You could do that, but there's a reason it cooked in the first place. if a wire cooks inside a wiring harness, the whole harness smokes,, shorts multiple wires to other multiple wires, and the whole thing has to be replaced, for obvious reasons. I recommend you buy ($20) online of from a vendor a wiring diagram g=for your car. then you can fully trace the wire out, and find where the problem is, before you try to hook it back up. I cooked the rear harness to my car, and should have known better, as i do electronics repairs for a living and have a degree in it. it's only about 8 wires, but it now has to be replaced. i would not like the experience of cooking one of the dash ones, with about 50 in it. get a wiring diagram, find out what it is, why it cooked, and if the problem has been removed or not. go from there.
