Hey on my `78 Vette the two rear caliper bolts pulled out and it seems the two bolt holes where the caliper bolts go in and bolt up to the spline or hub or whatever are stripped out. How can Fix this, could I put the caliper bolts in and just put a couple of welds to hold it in place, or could I jb weld them in or what should I do. I know I could tap and die or throw a bullet in there whats your solution, I need it to be a temp to perm fix.
a helicoil kinda looks like a small spring... has threads on the inside and treads on the outside...you use a extractor in the tap n die to extract the old bolt. drill out the old threads use the tap n die to retread the hole and insert the helicoil into the hole... the outside threads hold it in place and the inside threads give you nice new threads to hold your bolt... using this allows you to use the OEM bolt.....(If you just use the tap n die then the hole is bigger and you have to use a differant bolt...)
I have used them on heads before to hold on the exhuast manafolds...
they worked fine for me....
Ok. Kool but if the bolts are already out which both of them have come out all I need to do is rethread the hole put the helicoil in and put the new oem spec caliper bolts I have recieved back in?
