I have a strange problem with my 78's brake booster and was hoping someone could help me. My question is "does the brake booster have any sort of liquid inside that could leak out?"

I have noticed a clear wet spot on my floor that is underneath the booster and upon checking it I found a coating of a clear liquid on the bottom of the booster. At first I thought the master cylinder was leaking into it, but two things lead me to believe otherwise. First, the fluid level in the master cylinder is not down (I have been watching it). There is probably a tablespoon worth of liquid on the bookster and floor and the m/c is not that low. Plus, I removed the master cylinder from the booster and there was only a very slight drop of brake fluid at the inlet of the m/c and that hay be left from when I refilled the m/c after putting calipers on the other night. The second thing is that this liquid is clear and does not smell like brake fluid- its kind of dry when you rub your fingers together (like brake fluid), but does not have a smell of brake fluid.

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm not familiar with the location of items under the hood on 78's. On my 82, the windshield reservior is located on the drivers inner fender, the hoses from the pump are routed around the master cylinder booster. It may be possible that the hose feeding the wipers might have a pin hole, and may spray in that area. This is just a hunch, good luck......

 

There is no fluid inside a brake booster.
