electrical mystery solved
have a low mileage coupe, owned since new, low miles. have been experiencing an occasional electrical problem when starting, lights would dim and sometimes not start like low voltage/weak battery. checked everything - alternator output, battery voltage, electrical connections at battery/generator, etc. - finally pulled the battery to frame wire off and checked continuity with a digital vom, could get 0 to 160 ohms by wiggling/bending cable. finally decided that problem was in connection between battery cable and terminal. carefully unsoldered and cut off terminall, it was also crimped to cable. crimped and soldered on another ring terminal, tested, reinstalled - works fine. cut the old terminal apart, on examination the crimp was loose enough to pull apart, the solder penetration was probably less than 15% - so much for quality control in the 70's.
