I am considering replacing the dash lamps with LED bulbs and need recommendations on what vendors have been used and the type of bulb.
Can I expect the LED bulbs to give more off more light than the original bulbs?
I purchased LED bulbs for the dash lights in my 79 from "superbrightleds.com". They a listed as replacements for bulb number 194. I haven't installed them yet as they are part of my winter project, but the company was easy to deal with, reasonable prices, and quick shipping.
Here's another source for you, http://www.whitegauges.net/. I have not ordered from them but I've read favorable comments on the forum about them. I plan on installing the leds in my '79 when I start on the interior.
Bought mine for my wife's 70 roadster from superbrightleds.com and went with green tint LEDs (wide angle type.) Lighting is good, you will lose the dimmer feature as LEDs will stop working as voltage drops. Otherwise entirley happy with conversion.
Awhile back, I received a post back in response to a request for LED pricing. I never did get around to buying them so I can't give feedback but here's the response -
"gauge pkg [10 bulbs] $77 shipped Dash pkg [15 bulbs] $119 Tail lights $78 All prices include tracking # shipped. Take 5% off if more than one kit purchased at the same time! paypal accepted at dkolybaba@yahoo.ca
Thanks 07silvervette17"
superbrightleds.com is a reliable source.. i got mine from there quickly and in good order after i had to cancel an order with 07silvervette because he couldn't get the parts to me as promised (long saga, already been discussed - search for it if you want.)
Try PREMIERTEKNET They are on EBAY for around $60.00 You can get a batch of 20 bulbs. I installed this in my 79 and I have had no problems with them. Very cool very bright light bulbs. Only con You can not use the dimmer with these light bulbs.. Good Luck....
For a '73, you might need 1895 or BA9S bulbs, not 194. Make sure to check that. ledlight.com and autolumination.com are good for this. I wrote a paper on this.

I would recommend staying away from this vendor. Shipping problems and mine do not work.

These guys have great customer service. They're quick and I haven't had any problems with them.
If you have incandescent bulb brightness problems, it is likely due to insufficient voltage due to 1) dimmer problem in headlight switch; 2) bad grounding to dash lights system. In either case, converting to LED's may not be a solution as LED's will not work with insufficient voltage.
