Default What choice for FI?

While I'm over in Iraq, I'm surfing for parts and I'm debating on what to do with the 383 that I'm putting in my '80 rebuild. A TPI intake will fit under a stock hood. However, I'm told that an LT1/LT4 type plenum-manifold will give me a bit mor HP.
Summit isn't selling an all inclusive kit anymore; you have to buy all the sub parts seperately now like fuel rails, injectors, TB and such. Gesh, how difficult can we make this?
What are your suggestions for a fuel injection system for my application that fits under the stock '80 hood?
Thanks all...

Stock TPI as you maybe know was built around the 305 engine, and so on a 350 it's being pushed for airflow, and dies down over 5 grand, up to 4500 or so it's fine....gets great fuel economy compared to a carb....

BUT on that 383, I recomend the LT1 induction...I noticed a difference on my L98 engine, now you have to know you need a friend with a TIG machine that is really good with welding, as plenty of machine work and welding it necessary to adapt that setup to the L98 engine, I did mine for only 150 bux off Craigslist, try ebay....that was for rails and mani....then I went to work....using a scrap aluminum carb manifold for that dizzy mount pad/section that was TIGGED in place on the LT1 mani.....

I pulled a test fit on it, and it ran so well, I left it alone, looks like hell, not being powdercoated or anything...but I can't complain, so I leave it....

Are there any FI options for a 71 454 that dont require major fabrication?

Not that I know of, for the major bux involved you maybe as well off to go a newer LS engine, and forget about the old boat anchors....

I had it to do again, that's what I would do, no question.....but I did my silly SBC roller engine some 12 years ago.....LS was brand new then....

What do you consider major fabrication? The Mass flo system I have on mine did not require major fabrication but I had to run some fuel lines and do some work to get it to fit nicely. It is pretty much a plug and play system. They do make a system for BB chevrolets also.

Holley Commander EFI fits the stock air cleaner and hood on my '78. For a big block the same system will work but the manifold needs to be machined (Zwede has documented that).

This bolts on inplace of your carb on a standard intake and will self tune.

I did the Holley 4Di 950, but if I had to do it all over again, I might just go with the EZ system. Either is better than making a factory system work. I'm very pleased with my Holley FI, and I would never go back to a carb.

I'm not looking for the FAST system. The LT4 Edelbrock airgap looks nice. I was trying to find an all-inclusive set up for that. I was wanting everything to be there in a box when I got home, ready to bolt on.

the fast system is like that.
the hardest part is getting the bung for the o2 sensor installed.
install time is a few hours.

plus it is self tuning to your engine.

This months Hot Rod magazine has a good article on the Fast EZ. It's on line too. I think it's the easiest fi setup on the market right now.

Take a look at the Street & Performance website. They have several plenum options for TPI. They also offer systems for BB's. They were one of the first into hotrodding chevy F.I. and they offer the best harness available.

Im in country too, stay safe brother. I would go with LT1 also, I have an LT1 in my 81' that may see a 396 crank depending on how much money i get from this deployment.
