Default Another tdc question

im slowly putting an 81 block back together. i put on the balancer for fun and im not sure if the timing mark on balancer is positioned right. the piston is falling by the time the line reaches 0. when the #1 piston is at exact tdc the line on the balancer is at 12 o clock. educate me please. thanks colin75.

the timing mark on the balancer is approx 45 deg counterclockwise from the keyway. the balancer and cover should be original equiptment.

You are right it should be on 0 when the piston is highest. Your balancer may have slipped.

Looking at the balancer itself, if the TDC mark is exactly inline with the keyway, it's a pre-69 balancer. Later balancers have the TDC line 10 degrees counterclockwise from the keyway.
