Default Horn Button Rattles!

Replaced the horn button (#1 Cap-Horn) and (#3 Contact arm) and my horn button still rattles, had to fold up a small piece of paper towel and stuff it under the horn button, is there and way to stop the noise?

Horn Cap Problem---
As near as I can tell there are only three possibilities as to a loose horn cap. (1) The upper horn contact #3 is loose in the column. (2) The horn cap #1 is defective. (3) The upper horn contact is defective.

(1) Refer to the blowup picture in your original posting above. The upper horn contact #3 should be secured to the hub #11 by means of three screws #2 that pass through the contact, then through the shim(s) #4, through the spacer #8, and finally threads into the hub.
When you finish tightening the three screws the horn contact should be scure.

(2) Refer to the blowup picture below. Horn cap #1 consists of three parts on all C3 Corvettes regardless as to which column is in the car.

The cap, emblem, and retainer should be staked together securely. The cap has three posts that are spun over to hold all three of them together. You might help the posts to hold things together by adding some JBWeld to them. Some people have actually tapped the cap and used three small screws to hold them together.

(3) Horn cap #1 should snap securely into the contact. If the contact is removed from the column and is loose in your hand, you should be able to take the cap and snap it into the contact. You should be able to assure that the cap and contact do snap securely together and if not, where the looseness is occuring.

Good luck,
Jim

I've seen a few people squirt a bit of black silicone underneath the contact arm to keep it from rattling. In fact there was a post a month or so ago where a guy was asking about the rubber gasket that wasn't listed on the column parts breakout and other forum members identified this as silicone that was used to prevent rattling. Never done it myself but i have heared about it.

I just used a small piece of white cotton towel material stuck under the edge to stop mine from rattling away.

If I'm remembering correctly (its been a few years) mine was rattling because the nylon rivets had come loose in the horn contact. After ordering these and seeing how it worked I went with 3 small nylon machine screws and washers (from True Value or similar) to snug up the horn button so it wouldn't rattle any more.

Default Thanks for the suggestions.

I will take a close look at everything everyone has sugggested , the horn cap, the horn contact and the three screws that a pass thru the horn contact. With and luck this should be an easy and free fix. Thanks, PG.
