Default 74 Registry

I know there are quite a few years which have a place to register. I haven't seen one for 74s. Is there one??

I was just looking at the 70 registry and it is great. I was hoping there was one for 74.

Eventually. Wouldn't it be nice to know how many L82 convertibles there are? Collect the VINs and you can compile this information. It gets a bit more involved for color combos and other options, however.

I've already got quite a few, and the stats are interesting. I've been concentrating on big blocks and convertibles. I've pondered contacting state DMVs to see if they'll provide just VINs for 1974 Chevrolet Corvettes, but I haven't gotten much further than that. Right now I get them as they come - Ebay, Driveline, online ads, etc.

Guy, there was 593 454 convertibles, 1137 L-82 convertibles, and 1730 L-48 convertibles. I'd also like to work with you some on this registry. When the '74 Corvette was the "Silver Salute" 25th Anniversary Car in 1999 at Bloomington, I recorded and catalogged every VIN of every '74 there. I have either 46 or 64 of them. I have '74 #00303 and up near the end of production. When the owner was present, and I did make alot of effort to "greet" them as they pulled into the Silver Salute area, I had them open their doors to get the "trim tag" info. Keep in touch, and we'll figure how to get this info to you-that is if you'd want it and would like to start a '74 Registry. Mine is Sept 8th, 1973 build date, #01950.

So who should I email my VIN to?
Let's start with guymayberry@hotmail.com - for now all that's necessary is the vin, but other helpful information includes:

1 - exterior color
2 - interior color - including whether it's the deluxe interior
- may just want to send the trim plate numbers for these
3 - auto or stick
4 - power windows yes/no
5 - power brakes yes/no
6 - power steering yes/no
7 - tilt yes/no
8 - know items not original - engine, trans, color, etc.

This is all from memory, so I may need to make a tweak or two. Feel free to include as much or as little after the vin that you want.

While I track the source of the vins I receive, I will respect your anonomity and put "CorvetteForum.com" unless you specifically request otherwise. Of course, I don't know what "otherwise" would mean right now, but maybe I'll come up with something someday.

That's it - send 'em on.

No source for these numbers. I just goofed them up. I should've been more careful on how I "came to these" before I posted them. OK, just refigured the "thoeretical" number produced and I came up with these. 492 '74 454 convertibles, 930 '74 L-82 convertibles, 4052 '74 L-48 convertibles. Since '74 convertibles accounted for 17% of production, I then took 9% of that('74 454 cars), 17% of production were L-82s, and the balance of 4052 would be L-48 '74 convertibles produced. These numbers again are only "theoretical", but they probably are fairly very close to what might be the actual numbers built.

All the more reason for the vin registry - for those of us who are "analysis retentive" and want to know the actual number. I suppose that options - convertible, big block, L82 - would not necessarily be equally distributed, which is what is assumed when we apply percentages to come up with "theoretical" numbers. No flame intended - I did the math on this too.

I've heard that the number of 454 convertibles is close to 800 - don't know where or whether it's accurate.

So far I have four vins that are 74 convertible 454s. Bring 'em on!

Guy, even though you have great intentions(no flaming here either), you'll never ever know the exact amount, that's why probably my "theoretical" numbers will probably be very close. How do we account for destroyed '74s, stolen '74s, # of '74s left in existence? Those numbers will never be known!!! Just a hint on a registry I have been doing the last 4yrs and 2mos. I've been doing a 1975 L-82 Survey(Registry)since January of '98. Like you, every time I saw a '75 for sale, either in the Driveline, AutoTrader, Hemming's or locally I'd call about it. And in the last 4yrs, I've travelled to Bloomington, Funfest, Corvettes@Carlisle, numerous NCRS shows, Chicago VetteFest, etc. Out of 2372 1975 L-82s built, I've only been able to find, locate and record 54 of them. Since there was 37,502 1974 Corvettes built, you'd probably be lucky to record even 400 of them. Juliet, here on the forum, has been doing a '70 Registry for a couple of years now and I think she has somewhere near 200 1970 Corvettes recorded. I still have that list of all those '74s I recorded at Bloomington in '99, if you need them too.
