Default 79 temp sender question

I'm about ready to install the engine in my 79,i always mockup the bolt ons to the engine to make sure there are no problems after it's in the car. well the first problem is the heads, i'm using Dart ss heads, and i found that the hole to install the temp sender and temp switch is only 3/8 instead of 1/2 NPT.I was going to install the temp sender in the intake( Edelbrock 2101) , ok this will work, so i thought, then with the thermostat housing on, it runs right over where the sender is. my question is ... is there a sender out there that will work correctly with the factory guage and fit the 3/8 NPT hole ?? the temp switch i have found one that will work thru Hotronics

OK, this is a very frequent question and one that I had when I rebuilt my engine. First, your current temp sender is calibrated to your gauge. I went through three temp senders to find the closest match. I picked up a WELLS Temp Sender. I also have heard that the 81 Temp Sender would be a close match. In any case, Your Temp Sender has an ohm reading. Use a multimeter to get the reading as this could help when locating a temp sender and checking before installing. It can be done. I still have the box my temp sender came in and I can hook you up with the part number if you want. I have a 79 as well so I feel your pain...

You can use a plumbing fitting - 3/8 X 1/2 reducer to install the temp sender into the block.
