1973 454 Wiring

thanks tom, been to your web site many times...good job.
I know where everything goes. But, bubba has been under the hood and I am not sure how it is supposed to look. I bought a new engine harness from Lectric and laid it in on top of the existing wireing and the red wire that connects to the in-line fuse and goes on to the starter solinoid does not reach the back of the altenator where I thought it should go. Do it go to a relay on the fire wall that I may be missing? I looked under the hood of a small bloc and the wire appears to run staight from the harness to the back of the altenator. Did they send me the wrong harness?
