power steering pump reservoir studs
the replacement reman power steering pump i bought does not have the studs on the back of the reservoir like my original does.....do these just unscrew from the original and i transfer them to the replacement? it looks like the reman reservoir has plastic plugs in there now am i to assume these have threaded holes that go into the actual reservoir, if so how do i stop them from leaking when i transfer the studs from the original to the remanufactured pump? is there a gasket seal or do i just put sealent on the threads thks bob

There are O rings inside the housing at the stud openings. Just unscrew the studs and screw them into the new pump. No sealant is necessary.
The studs are what hold the pump into the reservoir.

PS Pump
I just rebuilt a PS Pump and the kit from NAPA had square and round "O" Rings to seal the holes that the studs go through.
This might help you see how the resv. is mounted.

that was very helpful, so it looks like my studs will mount into blind holes in the actual pump body and as long as the o rings were put into place properly during the reman process i should not have to worry about any leaks, i may put some RTV sealent around the base of the stud for xtra security......what did you torque the studs to?
thats a pretty neat website i had not vistied that site before

Why did you put RTV on it? As mentioned above, don't put any adhesive or "sealant" on the O-rings. Only certain types for RTV will seal in an 'oil' environment. If you had cleaned-off the surfaces well, the O-ring would have sealed quite nicely. You might want to spot-check for leaks in that area every now and then.
